Adventures in Ingestion

It's been an interesting month in eating at Tribal and DDB. A few weeks back we hosted a dinner for our Campaign friends at Zilli Fish. The evening started with a cooking lesson from the chef himself, Aldo Zilli.

We learned to gut, clean, and prepare fish and squid, which seemed like a useful skill to pick up. Less successful was our lesson in handmade pasta. There's a reason why most Italians buy it dry; if you don't get it right, it's doughy and terrible, which we discovered later. It was an adventure for everyone, as we ate what we made. And everyone had a lot of fun, even if Campaign deemed our 'culinary concoctions' too 'disgusting' to eat in their Diary section last week.

We also managed to have two Commonwealth eating adventures in the building last Friday, as we simultaneously celebrated Burns Night and Australia Day. We had our resident bagpiper, Paul Matuszczyk, ceremonially pipe the haggis through the building before it was served in our agency pub, The John Webster.

I never thought I would see people running towards bagpipes and the prospect of haggis. I will say that the haggis - ground organ meat stuffed into an intestine - was tastier than I thought, even without the offered shot of whisky. (Drew captured the whole pageant in a slideshow.)

Australia Day came a few hours early to Tribal London, but we figured it was all kosher, given that it had already arrived Down Under. Mike Parsons, our managing partner led the sizeable Aussie contingent; with Australian decorations, beer, music, and snacks, who wouldn't feel like celebrating? (I was a bit unsure whether onion rings were part of the indigenous cuisine, but I was assured that they are.)

You can imagine that my stomach is a little nervous at what next month might bring. Improperly prepared seafood, spiced ground organ meats, and warm Foster's don't mix. And lately I've been eating Big Macs, Chicken Legends, Fish-o-Filets, and McFlurries on company time. February can't come soon enough.

Champagne for Alice

Drew took this picture last Friday as we wished the best of luck to Alice (above, about to pop the cork.) She's traded in her planning tools for a career in art galleries, an event we celebrated with a shaky trolley and a night down the pub.
